Description

The Park has three distinct areas: the Central Nave of Quinta das Conchas, the Forest and Quinta dos Lilases. The Nave Central, a larger area, consists of wide lawns punctuated by trees, open views, which invite ball games and picnics on the grass. It is limited at the top by a group of olive trees and zambujeiros, and at the bottom, next to the large lake, there is a mass of large eucalyptus trees, classified as a grove of public interest, where the picnic tables are located, in a area of excellence.

The Mata, a denser forest area and with a more intact nature, consists of a varied set of tree species, with a highlight of a mass of trees of the ZelKova Serrata species, also classified as public interest, Himalayan cedars and Buçaco cedars. In some places, a dense cover of bushes develops, such as curls, bloods, elderberries and hawthorn, which is very important for several species of birds such as shelter, feeding and nesting sites.

Separated from Quinta das Conchas by a wall, we have Quinta dos Lilases, with a more secluded environment, with its famous artificial lake, of romantic inspiration, representing the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe. The vegetation is marked by the alignment of olive trees next to the Quinta das Conchas wall and by the presence of eucalyptus, poplars, ash, gleditsias and species of the genus Quercus. The shrub stratum is reduced, especially pomegranates and the remarkable sets of old and large boxwoods. The lining of the clearing zones is in a dryland meadow. This farm has a community orchard area, recently built as part of a Participatory Project.

The existence of diversified habitats gives this Park a great value in terms of biodiversity, occurring a number of species above the usual for urban green spaces.

The park was the target of a requalification plan promoted by the Lisbon City Council (Municipal Directorate for Urban Environment / Studies and Projects Division), having been distinguished with the Valmor and Municipal Architecture Awards 2005. Awards justified both by their extension and by quality, variety and integration, taking advantage of the urban discontinuities for this space, as well as the topography itself. From a programmatic point of view it presents great quality and from the point of view of the project and the execution itself, it values both the heritage that it encloses and the great neighborhood that surrounds it.
