Description
In a privileged place on the coast of the Principality at 155 meters above sea level, stands the Museum of the Jurassic of Asturias (MUJA), a unique museum that, in the form of a large tridactyl dinosaur footprint, houses one of the The world's most complete and educational exhibits about these fascinating reptiles.
With “time” as the common thread, the MUJA shows the evolution of life on Earth from its beginnings to the arrival of man, with special emphasis on the Mesozoic or Dinosaur Era and its three periods: Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous, referred to by each of the three fingers of the large footprint that forms the building.
In MUJA, the continent is as spectacular as the content: the architect Rufino Uribelarrea chose for the exterior a system of precast concrete sheets that leaves the façade blind, except for the entrance and exit doors. The roof is made of old copper, which over time will acquire a green tone, integrating fully into the landscape.
Inside, a wooden structure from Scandinavian forests forms a network of semicircular arches that simulate the ribs of dinosaurs and offer the visitor the almost magical feeling of a journey through time.
In addition, the environment of the building multiplies the possibilities of enjoyment. Privileged views over the Asturian coast, children's play area, gardens that allow walks among replicas of dinosaurs and the MUJA Café, make a visit to the Museum a unique experience.
This 2,000-meter exhibition area covers a particular moment in the history of the Earth, the Mesozoic, and of its protagonists, the dinosaurs.
The tour is structured through a chronological sequence: starting from times before the Mesozoic (Pre-Mesozoic), the Mesozoic itself (Cretaceous, Jurassic and Triassic) and later eras until today (Post-Mesozoic).
